Just recently watched all 3 films with no prior viewing, no nostalgia involved.
Keanu reeves seriously does not seem to care about doing this role at all, Alex Winter at least plays the role but Keanu sounds and looks deadpan all the time as if he's still playing Neo.
The entire film seriously feels like a retcon, at the end of Bogus Journey it definitely isn't a guarantee that the song they performed would be "the one" but really, after Ted's father arrested the guy with a futuristic gun and clothing, and after Bill and Ted suddenly appeared on stage with facial hair, instantly better guitar skills and 2 infant children, Ted's dad still actually questions what happened?
Ultimately the entire theme of the movie appears to be that the characters you loved in the last 2 films are not allowed to have the objective, proven ambition that they know for a fact is what they're meant to do with their lives.
Why? So the brand new carbon-copy girl versions of them can do it instead, which in itself was a retcon, playing off what they named them as a joke, just so they could make a very slightly less disrespectful Ghost busters 2016?
And Bill and Ted aren't even allowed to have that ambition alongside them? No, they're men, if they dare follow the very ambition that their daughters do, theyre deadbeats, their wives hate them, they end up in prison.
The space-time plot could have resolved all of the weird disparity in how the film treats the main characters and their female clones but its not touched on at all, the 2 guys who came back from the afterlife to save the world are just deadbeats and need to give up, the 2 clones who have done literally nothing and never put themselves in any real danger, theyre the real heroes literally by just telling everyone else to play the music for them.

This was everything I wanted it to be I'm not saying it's a perfect movie but my God it made me happy.

 

 

It's pure fun in its own simplicity. This is one clever dumb fun journey. Cool dudes.
